Huffing and a Bluffing
A few comments on the worlds scene
A little allegory before I begin my ramble. in 1936, American military planners considered their main enemy to be Great Britain. The bulk of its war planning revolved around invading Canada. As we aided Japan and Germany in building themselves up, we were deluding ourselves with invading Canada. The last time the U.S and the U.K nearly went to war was in the 1890's over, I believe, fishing rights.
As an Historian, one of my favorite comedians, Benito Mussolini used tactics that are being used today to separate us from our real problems with bluster and bluff. Americans tend to get all too involved with world leaders throwing fake tantrums in order to justify their internal problems and foreign adventures to justify a policy of booty over butter.
As I sit here clacking away, I find myself shivering with fear over North Korea's great nuclear arsenal. A MIRV can carry up to 8 Hydrogen Bombs that can project its power to 8 different targets. Now what can a Tae Dong missile do? Frighten the American public,force Japan to go nuclear, make South Korea appease more, and make China, and Russia realize there influence over their old ally is in the decline. People often forget that when a nuke is fired....there will be radiation. The economies of China and the U.S are so intermingled it may force Peking to send troops across the Yalu to restore order and the Russians to utilize their rusty navy from Vladivostok along with Japan to blockade the North, and interdict arms shipments heading to those great nations who thrive on huff and bluff ......Burma and Iran. My action, fr ought with many risks, combined with interdiction will castrate the North and expose it for what it is....a nation with a huge army and nothing else. The stated policy of the striped pants set and several Presidents have done nothing more, but maintain and build their military, and create the very conditions we live with. As for the above, that is but a dream, for even an out of control North is too useful to Russia and China.
There are many in Iran who miss the Shah. much of the nation is in rebellion, ethnic cleansing, frightened Mullahs, and the infiltration of the Revolutionary Guard into the army and security services via the use of the purge. The country is collapsing and it cannot refine its own oil and owes the Russians untold amounts of money. Another boogie man enabled by Russia and China., and whose power has been raised to almost Olympian heights by our politicians, and ratings hungry, usually poorly read, pundits. Iran uses the spread of the Shia form of Islam to try and destabilize Iraq, has made a desperate Syria a proxy, Damascus is in the process of using forced conversions to create a Shia state. Our President, like many others, fail to grasp that the Israeli- Palestinian conflict, is used as a distraction for repressed citizens, and Western Diplomats to fuss over so the real problems are avoided. Blind mans bluff...a sad result of a broken regimes bluster to hold off collapse. The Iranian people, unlike the Russians, will not starve in order to see the map of their nation expand. Iran like North Korea must be made to understand the price of such obvious brinkmanship. By carrying out the policies we are, we stand to lose the support of regimes looking to us for protection. Our weakness will just continue the stench of bribery, propaganda and surrender. The rantings of a President called mad is far from off his rocker. Those speeches are strategic and force a useless U.N. and a weak President to put off and appease instead of showing the flag. Our President did not show nearly the muscle of the bully pulpit and the planning of arming dissidents, with Russian weapons, as a first shot across the bow.Aa with North Korea, Russia and China's double dealing will eventually come back to bite them in the ass. the Chinese and Russians feel our fear and use it as a steroid. Please explain why President Sarkozy and Chancellor Angela Merkel have taken a more aggressive tone with Iran than the U.S.
I can right a thesis on this nonsense, but I felt the above two are the best examples. for the conclusion of this ramble....I conclude with a few bullet points.
President Calderon of Mexico, the first President since the Carranza Revolution of 1917, to be Pro-American, is involved in a war that is fracturing his country and can determine its fate possibly for the next 50 to 100 years..Our groovy guru in the White House concerns himself with trucks and murmurs about tariffs. How can he start in with tariffs with Mexico and Canada our 2 neighbors?
Our fine ally, President Uri be of Columbia, with our help, has beaten back the Farc and the Narco-Terrorists. Yes..he must reign in certain problems with labor and right wing militias, but the people's lives would be far worse being ruled by the reverse. Once again our Guru chooses Chavez and his ilk to use him as a propaganda tool while he wrings his hands and states "Can't we just play nice together." once again, as with our surrender to the Russians in Eastern Europe, he does nothing while the Russian navy visits Cuba and pours arms into Venezuela where they are dispatched to our enemies. Our President opts for photo ops with a dictator.
I finish with Honduras. Those brave people chase out a President, Zelaya, a Chavez want to be and our President condemns the Honduran government. President Zelaya is looking to follow the path of "El Loco" and the nation is fighting off protests from mislead citizens. Our President again backs Zelaya instead of maintaining a free state attempting to defend itself. We have deserted another ally. We are, like in other continents, losing the battle of trust and respect.

Days after the start of the new school year, Snyder received a letter from the Michigan Department of Human Services warning her that if she continued, she'd be violating a law aimed at the operators of unlicensed day care centers.
Gov. Jennifer Granholm spokeswoman Liz Boyd said the agency was following standard procedure in its response. "But we feel this (law) really gets in the way of common sense," Boyd said.
"We want to protect kids, but the law needs to be reasonable," she said. "When the governor learned of this, she acted quickly and called the director personally to ask him to intervene."

Catoosa County Schools spokeswoman Marissa Brower said a Fort Oglethorpe resident lodged a verbal complaint to Superintendent Denia Reese last week, saying that the display of a Bible verse on the football field is a violation of federal law.
A school system statement released Monday said the message constitutes “a violation of the First Amendment of the Constitution for signs with Bible verses to be displayed on the football field.”

The Press keeps telling us that the world loves President Obama. Will they tell us that the French President thinks President Obama is naive?

"President Obama dreams of a world without weapons ... but right in front of us two countries are doing the exact opposite.
"Iran since 2005 has flouted five security council resolutions. North Korea has been defying council resolutions since 1993.
"I support the extended hand of the Americans, but what good has proposals for dialogue brought the international community? More uranium enrichment and declarations by the leaders of Iran to wipe a UN member state off the map," he continued, referring to Israel.
The sharp-tongued French leader even implied that Mr Obama's resolution 1887 had used up valuable diplomatic energy.
"If we have courage to impose sanctions together it will lend viability to our commitment to reduce our own weapons and to making a world without nuke weapons," he said.
Mr Sarkozy has previously called the US president's disarmament crusade "naïve".

Looks like South Beach is still thereI had to show a film in class one day. I believe it was part of the series Race to Save the Planet (1990). Since that time, I have been pretty much convinced about Global Warming. Convinced that it is a hoax. The documentary had one line that I remember. They said that in 15-20 years, the Everglades could be covered by the ocean if we didn't act right away.
Well I was showing the film in 2007, which was 17 years after the documentary was made. I was thinking that "Heck, the ocean hasn't even covered the beach in Miami, nevermind the Everglades."

All the Global Warming stories tell of impending doom, global catastrophy, climate calamities, etc. that might happen.

Those two purchases put her in violation of Indiana law 35-48-4-14.7, which restricts the sale of ephedrine and pseudoephedrine, or PSE, products to no more than 3.0 grams within any seven-day period.
While the law was written with the intent of stopping people from purchasing large quantities of drugs to make methamphetamine, the law does not say the purchase must be made with the intent to make meth.

Obama abdicates his responsibility on Afghanistan
The military general credited with capturing Saddam Hussein and killing the leader of al Qaeda in Iraq, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, says he has spoken with President Obama only once since taking command in Afghanistan.
"I’ve talked to the president, since I’ve been here, once on a VTC [video teleconferece]," Gen. Stanley McChrystal told CBS reporter David Martin in a television interview that aired Sunday.
"You’ve talked to him once in 70 days?" Mr. Martin followed up.
"That is correct," the general replied.

Verbal bersagliere,William Safire, dies at age 79
William Safire, columnist,verbal bersagliere, polemicist,speech writer, linguistic litigant died Sunday at age 79.
He was a speechwriter in the Nixon White House. he wrote Vice President Spiro Agnew's famous phrase, "nattering nabobs of negativism."
I used to buy the Sunday NT Times just to read his article.
Safire spent more than 30 years writing on the Op-Ed page of The New York Times. In his "On Language" column in The New York Times Magazine and more than a dozen books, Safire traced the origins of words and everyday phrases such as "straw man," "under the bus" and "the proof is in the pudding." He was a master in the use of our common language, and an expert on the uncommon language.
May he rest in peace.

Border Patrol booting 384 agents from Mexican border
Border Patrol Director of Media Relations Lloyd Easterling confirmed this week that his agency is planning for a net decrease of 384 agents on the U.S.-Mexico border in fiscal 2010, which begins on October 1.
They are moving them to the Canadian border. I guess that is to make sure that we stop the flood of English speaking people into the country?

Hey Greg, What is free in your office? If you do a "free" exam for someone, does it cost you money, time? If a frame company gives you "free" samples, do you think they include that cost into the price of the frames that you do buy? Somebody has to pay for "free".

If the president were really intent on "fixing what's broken," one of the first places he would look is the abusive filings of medical malpractice lawsuits. The fact that he has ruled this out suggests that he is not entirely forthright about "fixing what's broken." Instead, it suggests that he is using the term "fix" in quite another sense. The president is not going to touch tort reform as long as trial lawyers remain the largest contributor to the Democratic Party. The fix is in. This is not the new politics of change but the very old politics of pay and play. The trial bar is paying, and Obama is playing along.

A White House senior adviser was scheduled to appear on CNN’s “American Morning” this week, but the White House rescinded the offer after the network booked author Christopher Andersen. Andersen’s new book “Barack and Michelle: Portrait of an American Marriage,” is out today. During her interview with Anderson this morning, CNN’s Kiran Chetry said, “We reached out to the White House for a response to the book. They declined comment and made it known that they weren’t happy. In fact, they pulled an interview they had with a senior adviser once they learned you were on the show.”

Today we became aware of a video that was placed on the internet which has been reported in the media. The video is of a class of students singing a song about President Obama. The activity took place during Black History Month in 2009, which is recognized each February to honor the contributions of African Americans to our country. Our curriculum studies, honors and recognizes those who serve our country. The recording and distribution of the class activity were unauthorized.

This year's cooler-than-expected summer means the Arctic probably won't experience ice-free summers until 2030 or 2040, scientists say.
Some models had previously predicted that the Arctic could be ice free in summer by as soon as 2013, due to rising temperatures from global warming.
"I look at it as a one-year reprieve," Walter Meier, a scientist at the U.S. National Snow and Ice Data Center in Boulder, Colorado, said. "I don't expect that to continue."
For one thing, this year's ice is thinner than in the past, and thus more vulnerable to future melt.
