A New Halloween Tradition...
I think my new Halloween treat is Serbian Plum Brandy, aka Slivovitz
Slivovitz a distilled beverage made from Damson plums.
Its pleasing flavor is due largely to the plum kernels.
Some producers have obtained a Hechsher for their slivovitz, certifying that it is kosher.
I added some raisins, cranberries, and apples. Then I warmed it a bit. Very nice while sitting on the porch.

Betty McCollum makes a YankeePhil Trifecta.....
But the real way to reduce the deficit is to cut the spending that Democrats increased by more than a third in three budget cycles, and to pass any kind of budget — two tasks at which McCollum and the Democrats have utterly failed, and will continue to fail if left in power.

Hugo Chavez to seize golf courses...
“That’s an injustice -- that someone should have the luxury of having I don’t know how many hectares to play golf and drink whiskey and, next door, there’s misery and children dying when there are landslides,” Chavez said during his weekly television show.....

Liberal Media Plotting Against Joe Miller
The National Republican Senatorial Committee has spoken out on the incident.
“If this voicemail is authentic, which i[t] appears to be, it is deeply disturbing,” said NRSC communications director Brian Walsh in a statement. “It should trouble all Americans that any member of the media would attempt to purposefully smear a nominee for the U.S. Senate. CBS owes an immediate explanation to Joe Miller and his campaign.”

You will have 3 chances to vote NO on Tuesday in VA.
On Tuesday, there will be 3 Constitutional Questions on the ballot.
Question 1:
Shall Section 6 of Article X of the Constitution of Virginia be amended to authorize legislation that will permit localities to establish their own income or financial worth limitations for purposes of granting property tax relief for homeowners not less than 65 years of age or permanently and totally disabled?
Question 2:
Shall the Constitution be amended to require the General Assembly to provide a real property tax exemption for the principal residence of a veteran, or his or her surviving spouse, if the veteran has a 100 percent service-connected, permanent, and total disability?
Question 3:
Shall Section 8 of Article X of the Constitution of Virginia be amended to increase the permissible size of the Revenue Stabilization Fund (also known as the “rainy day fund”) from 10 percent to 15 percent of the Commonwealth’s average annual tax revenues derived from income and retail sales taxes for the preceding three fiscal years?
Virginia Right's view on the first 2 questions is....
These amendments are simply shifting the approval of these tax breaks from the Virginia Legislature to the local Board of Supervisors in each locality. If these measures shifted powers from federal to state or local level, they would be a good thing.
But all they are actually doing is allowing local Boards to bypass the oversight the Virginia Constitution put in place. Localities can still do these things now if they so decide, but they must seek approval from the state legislators. This is a wise check and balance and should not be changed.
Both should be declined.
On the 3rd question they reword the question a tad....
Shall Section 8 of Article X of the Constitution of Virginia be amended to increase the amount we overtax you and do not give back from 10 percent to 15 percent?
I kept hearing about Virginia's "Surplus" on last budget. Well where is my money??
A surplus means I had too much tax withheld. So it will go down next year right???

Palladino in NY gets some heat for calling Kirsten Gillibrand "Schumer's Little Girl"
Just because Carl Paladino can't con trol his flapping jaw doesn't mean that everything he says is wrong.
Thursday, the GOP gubernatorial candidate dismissed Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand as "[Chuck] Schumer's little girl."
Yesterday he doubled down:
"[Gillibrand] does exactly what Schumer tells her to do . . . She follows him whatever he wants her to do. She is his little girl."
This gave the usual suspects the vapors -- but it's pretty much on the money.

Another guest Editorial from Geoff.
Foreign Affairs
Dear Mr. President and the Secretary of State.....a little commonsense.1. When dealing with Russia, one must remember one thing. The Russians rely on bluff and huff. Let them scream, yell and threaten. The idea is to look them right in the eye and say....NO. It makes them crazy. it is a regime that is rife with corruption, repression and uses nuclear weapons as a chess piece to intimidate. It has a declining population and a high em migration rate.By using a "Reset Button" we have given them a great propaganda victory and shows our allies that we are weak. As was well stated..."HOW DO YOU SPELL RUSSIA...KGB" Only a fool would make an old Cold War arms treaty...when we should have said "NO" to placing missile systems on ships. We shamed ourselves before the eyes of some of our best allies. Those allies understand the Russians all to well.
2. Europe is now a nation of police forces. Britain and France will have navies the size of Belgium's. Britain and France now lack any carriers or an ability to project its troops to other fronts. Both Britain and France maintain nuclear forces for prestige. The EU is a repressive Left bureaucracy that has weakened Western Europe and has insulted the Turks so badly..they have joined the great game and are linked to anti-American regimes. My recommendation is to exit NATO and form a defensive pact with Britain and Germany...who is also destroying its proud army.
My idea is to form an Eastern Locarno, pact. Said Pact would comprise the U.S, Poland, the Czechs, any independent state of the former Soviet Union. If it were not for the stupidity of the EU and the end of the former Kama lists, we now have an ally in name locking itself more to the side of Persia and it's Satraps. Turkey seeks to sucker us into placing our weapons there, but only if we give then our military secrets. It would be a boon for Persia and Russia.
3. Give up this charade of Middle East negotiations. The Palestinians are a pawn and are considered inferior, a source of cheap labor and distract the people of Dictatorships to the rot that is their existences. The frightened Arab regimes remained silent when Israel bombed Syria's nuclear reactor.
4. The power in Afghanistan is primarily the Opium war lords and the ancient clans. Any king that sought to govern were murdered. Karzi only rule s a part of Kabul and is as dishonest as Diem, Chang Kai Shek and Sygman Rhee. All were despised. Karzi takes money from us and the Taliban. His removal and another general election would show our fight for good government. The clans should be viewed as autonomous mini states. This status should be guaranteed by respect of their ways and allying ourselves in order to provide mutual security.
5. Pakistan has never been our friend and uses us as a bull-work against India. Pakistan's main power is its anti-American security services. It's army is worthless and fights while the security services finances the governments enemies. Pakistan is a failed state rife with competing agendas and like Persia seeks to make it a puppet state based on opium and terrorism.. Those same terrorists that are tearing the country apart.
5. While we wring our hands at North Korea and Persia having the bomb, we only have about 25,000. They know that one MIRV will exterminate both nations and irradiate the Middle East, Russia and China. Most of Persia is in a state of rebellion and North Korea has most of it's army squished against the DMZ. The slave state exists by the enabling of Russia and especially China. We also enable their behavior by bribing them with oil and food. Let them starve...and show strength.
I leave China for another time. Economically and militarily this can be a book and I do not wish to cannibalize this Blog. . I just sought to throw out a few examples. I fear my writing, for our, short sighted, president is cutting back on an insufficient military that has trouble projecting it self as it is. The world as constructed, smells our weakness and are ready to pounce like rabid dogs upon the flesh of failed states...desperate for protection. Who would have imagined that we are closer to Vietnam than South Korea. The younger generation has not listened to their elders....who remember.
I understand the war going on within for the souls of Americans within our blessed nation, but with out reason and power...all can be for naught. I dismiss the far Left who seek to turn this nation into a Socialist third world nation and hope the patriotic Tea Party Movement will also fight to maintain our military and fight for a tough foreign policy.Do not let our government provide the rope to hang us.Both parties must be warned...their game is coming to an end.
I am going to have a cup of tea.....Geoff

A Muslim Cleric Tells CNN the Truth
A Muslim cleric, Imam Anjem Choudary revealed a few unsettling details of Islamic extremists’ worldview, including the role of “moderate” Muslims in spreading Sharia law around the globe. Choudary says that spreading Sharia law is a “noble” goal as it represents a “superior way of life” compared to the “shackles of man-made law.”

Lisa Murkowski is not a fan of 1st Amendment...
Yesterday, Lisa Murkowski’s hired guns threatened radio host Dan Fagan, and more importantly, the station that airs Fagan’s show, with legal action for allegedly illegal “electioneering.” The station, unlike Murkowski, who is flush with millions of dollars from vested corporate interests, does not have a budget for a legal defense. So it did what any small market station would do when threatened by Beltway lawyers charging $500 to $1000 an hour – they pulled Dan Fagan off the air, according to Sarah Palin....

Did Bill "Fetch me coffee" Clinton just want the black man out of the race?
Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele accused Mr. Clinton of wronging black voters in his attempts to coax Mr. Meek out of the race. Mr. Meek, a Miami congressman, is African-American. The intervention would send a "chilling signal to all voters, but especially African Americans," said Mr. Steele, who is black.
Former President Bill Clinton tried to persuade Florida Democratic Rep. Kendrick Meek to drop out of his U.S. Senate race and support Gov. Charlie Crist's independent candidacy in hopes of thwarting a victory by Republican Marco Rubio.

Former "Republican" Charlie Crist making deals with Dems.
Bill Clinton sought to persuade Rep. Kendrick Meek to drop out of the race for Senate during a trip to Florida last week — and nearly succeeded.....
“The argument was: ‘You can be a hero here. You can stop him, you can change this race in one swoop,’” said another Democrat familiar with the conversations, who said Clinton had bluntly told Meek that he couldn’t win the race......
Crist also confirmed the planned scenario Thursday night, telling MSNBC's Keith Olbermann:
"I had numerous phone calls with people very close to President Clinton."

League of Women Voters Moderator, and Obama Supporter, Disrespected???
"There have been some groups who want to create a ruckus, call attention to something and using the pledge to the flag and making it seem the league is unpatriotic if we don't," said Greater Pittsburgh League President Arlene Levy.
The woman, Kathy Tate-Bradish, from the LWV was upset. She said that the audience had disrespected her. She said she was “forced” to say the Pledge and that it had “obviously been planned”.
MOELANE POSTS: A follow-up to yesterday’s post on the Pledge scandal in IL-08: it turns out that the League of Women Voters moderator (one Kathy Tate-Bradish) just happened to be a hardcore OfA member and Obama supporter. Everybody shocked, raise your hands… no, me neither. Admit it: you didn’t even think that she was anything except a typical Democratic elitist, right? And, oddly enough, you were clearly right to think that.

Fishy Bacon ! ! !
In honor of Fishy Mike's 1 year anniversary, I dedicated a bacon post to him.....
So for year two, I am going to continue with BACON ! ! !
BACON WRAPPED CHICKEN BREAST
4 (around 3 to 4 oz each) boneless chicken breast
8 strips bacon
4 slices provolone cheese, or 1/2 cup shredded
1/4 tsp fresh parsley, finely chopped
1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
salt and pepper
Split the chicken breast horizontally to fillet. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Layer provolone on one side of the breast and fold over the other side to enclose. Wrap each roll with two slices of bacon. Combine red pepper flakes and fresh parsley. Sprinkle on top of chicken. Place in an oven-proof dish and bake uncovered at a 350 F until bacon turns slightly pink, around 10 to 15 minutes. Increase heat to 400 F and continue to bake until bacon crisped and juices run clear when chicken is pierced, around 20-25 minutes. Slice and serve hot.
Bucatini all’Amatriciana
Here’s an approximate cost breakdown of this fabulous 30-minute meal:
$2.00 Bucatini, 1 lb
$5.50 Pancetta, 1/2 lb (this is even less expensive if you substitute regular bacon; only do this if you must)
$1.00 Fresh hot peppers
$3.50 High quality (e.g., San Marzano) canned tomatoes
$1.00 Large red onion
$0.50 Head of garlic (you won’t use the whole thing)
$5.00 Pecorino (you’ll only use a fraction of this, I estimated $0.75 worth)
