New Virginia Project writes...........EXCUSES

New Virginia Project writes........... So far, it has been Crowley and Gates who have remained the most civilized within their respective interviews and while they have different opinions their statements have been mild in comparison to the rhetoric I've heard from both sides of this debate.
EXCUSE ME??? The only reason that we are having beer summits is because Professor Gates was anything but civilized in his initial "interview" by the officers.

New Virginia Project writes...........President Obama took the lead in this incident after putting himself front and center in this debate. He, along with Crowley and Gates in my opinion have put themselves above the political and racial divide that has engulfed this debate.
EXCUSE ME??? He didn't take the lead. He was backed into the beer summit in order to heal the wounds caused by the self inflicted "stupidly" comment. He had no choice but to try and cover his behind.

New Virginia Project writes...........The past is the past and from what most can tell everyone at the table this evening know that in order to move out of the past we have to look at the future of our country.
EXCUSE ME???The problem with the rhetoric is that Crowley was looking forward. He did not see a black man. He saw an angry racist causing a scene. That angry racist does not think the past is the past. He thinks the present is the past.

New Virginia Project writes...........As a deputy, I rely on my brothers and sisters for backup and I definitely don't need help from Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck.
EXCUSE ME??? As a deputy, maybe you should give a little back-up to your brothers and sisters, from an attack by the President before he even before he knows the facts.

Democrat Senators afraid of voters.

Police were called on a group of retirees who refused to leave Sen. Dianne Feinstein's West Los Angeles office until she talked to them about health care reform, reports AP.

Another great rally yesterday for Universal Healthcare took place at Senator Evan Bayh's office in Hammond, Indiana.

They can't run a $1Billion dollar car program, and they want to run 1/6th of our economy>

AP reports the the House rushed Friday to pump $2 billion into a popular cash-for-clunkers program running near empty, with a leading Democrat saying "consumers have spoken with their wallets."
They couldn't run that properly or figure out the demand for for "free money". How are they going to run Obamacare?

The government hasn't thought about the consequences of their actions.
Used car prices are going to rise. The Clunker program will cause these cars to be destroyed. Well if you destroy used cars, that will deminish the supply. Limit the supply, and you increase prices.

Car Part Prices are going to rise. I don't know how many people have ever got rid of a car by selling it to a salvage yard, but I have. I bought a 1970 Plymouth Valiant for $25. It had 190,000 miles on it. I bought 4 tires and some engine parts from a salvage yard for $200. I drove it for about 6 months, 10,000 miles. I got a full time job , bought a new car and sold the Valiant to salvage yard for $100. The car cost me 70 cents a day plus gas and insurance. They dismantled it and sold many of the parts. Everyone was happy. Well the salvage yard wouldn't get my Valiant today. The dealership would get it, and I would get $4500. No parts to recycle. Again supply and demand.

Charities will lose out. Have you ever donated a car to a charity? Again, I have. I gave a car worth $2100 on the books to a charity. I got a right off worth about $700, goodwill and the knowledge that I was helping out children. Well will people donate their car for a $700 dollar value, or trade it in for $4500?

Prices paid on autos will increase. A person knows they can afford to pay $500 a month for their car payment after putting down $2000. That is a $21700 car, out the door, with a $19700 loan at 4%. Well if you give the customer $4500, they are going to afford a $26700 vehicle. A Car salesman is not going to let that money go. They are going to figure out how to get that cash into the dealership and into his commission check.

Hypothetically, if the program becomes so popular that every taxpayer in the country buys a car with that $4500, Then every taxpayer is actually buying a car with a loan from themselves. They get to pay it back with their own taxes. The way it stands, the taxpayer is subsidizing other peoples auto purchase. Instead of Cash for Clunkers, we should just call it the Clunker program.

Hard Shot at Obamacare.

Will rationing be part of Obamacare?
It stinks when an insurance company gets between you and your doctor, but what do you do when it is a government regulator?
In today's healthcare system, you can go and pay for your own healthcare. Will that be allowed under Obamacare?
This ad shows a senior couple's reaction when denied by a government regulator.

The Family Research Council is adding this to the ads
"In a world of health care rationing, the elderly, the handicapped and the frail are the most likely to lose their lives because care was delayed or denied. Under the government-run plans in England and Canada, the countries' sick and elderly aren't getting the care they need. As a result, their system isn't improving lives but prematurely taking them. Here in the United States, President Obama's rationing would mean that you and I could be denied basic care while our tax dollars are used to underwrite a mother choosing to end the life of her unborn child.

"On the other key life-and-death decisions there is an active commitment on the part of Senate Democratic Leadership to allow the rationing of health care. This is what the White House and Congress mean when they say they will cut costs. It means cutting off your access to health care services by creating the legal authority to do so, while stopping any provision becoming law that would prevent rationing.

Deeds WILL raise your taxes.

Dickie Bell wins in Augusta's 20th

The 20th District Legislative Committee nominated Staunton Councilman Dickie Bell to replace Del.Chris Saxman in the election against Democrat Erik Curren in November’s House of Delegates race.

From Swacgirl...........Dickie Bell, 62, the conservative conscience of Staunton City Council,
Often standing alone against a more liberal group of colleagues, Councilman Bell was instrumental in pursuing the recently-passed zoning ordinances to prevent adult businesses from locating near family-oriented areas such as schools or playgrounds. Working with Staunton Police Chief Jim Williams and citizens in the community, he was able to persuade a skeptical council to unanimously pass the ordinances for the protection of the city.

Black Female Obama Supporting Cop, say she won't vote for him next time.

Wanna know why VDOT is in the red?

Because they used 10 guys, each with their own pick-up or SUV, to close the Weyer's Cave rest area.
There was a flashing sign that said, CLOSED 7/21. There were 2 people, each with their own truck, changing that to say CLOSED.
There were 6 people at the permanent sign, each with their own truck, and a cherry picker, to cover part of the sign with a new sign that said CLOSED.Only one was working in the Cherry picker.
There were at least 2 more people with their own vehicles at the rest area placing cones.
I don't know how many were inside the actual rest area. But that is 10 people with 10 trucks, to close one rest area.
Maybe they should try 2 guys with a pick-up truck and a ladder?
But nooooooooo, more than 300K in vehicles and 10 people. With only 4 apparently doing any work.

How to ruin a Lefty's demo day.....

From Over at RedState...........

It’s actually not that hard.

  1. Figure out which professional agitation group typically runs faux-populist demonstrations in your area.As AlbemarleVA did

  2. Subscribe to their email list and/or website.
  3. DO NOT ENGAGE THEM IN CONVERSATION AND/OR DISCUSSION. You merely want to keep up with what they’re doing.
  4. When they announce a protest, note the time and date.
  5. Contact your local, actual conservative grassroots group.
  6. On the day of the event, swamp them ten to one. (Via Instapundit)
  7. Nicely.
  8. Politely.
  9. Smile a lot.
  10. Bring cameras. Because they’re going to violate 7, 8, & 9 themselves, and you want that recorded.

These groups use strategic camera shots, a largely disinterested local press looking for local color, and a general lack of counter-protesters to come across as more powerful and effectual than they actually are. Right now they can get away with getting twenty people out to a local event and calling it “grassroots activism.” Make it clear that they’re ridiculously outnumbered, and they’ll have to start spending more and more resources to accomplish their goals, such as they are.

Moe Lane

PS: None of this should stop people from having their own protests, of course. But counter-protests are much easier to put together… if you have the people to do it. We do. They don’t.

So when will the idiots stop talking about Global Warming?

One Candidate bows out. Throws support to David Karaffa.

Mr. Christopher DeWald
was one of the candidates for Chris Saxman's seat. He stated....

"I want to add that I throw any weight that I might have had to Mr. David Karaffa. He is the only one of the 7 that remain that is out there in the public. I have seen and heard him in Gypsy Hill Park. He is out there with the people. The others lack that motivation and drive. We need someone vibrant that is going after the position because he desires to be part of the solution and will work hard for the party. He is young enough to run for many years and not to be just a figurehead. I applaud his efforts in obtaining such medical credentials in such a short time. That shows desire and people skills. That is what the party that I love needs. We do not need someone who will just want the name of the position, but go out and be the reorganized Republican Party."---Christopher J DeWald.

Obama even takes credit for a perfect game.

Mark Buehrle pitched a perfect game.
He's a monster-truck-driving, deer-hunting, self-proclaimed country boy who strains to hit 90 on the radar gun and was picked in the 38th round of the 1998 amateur baseball draft. He did a great job. Congrats to Mark and the Chisox.
But the real credit should goto the man who caused it.
Obama congratulated Buehrle on his "unbelievable achievement" and suggested that perhaps it helped that Obama had worn a Sox jacket when he threw out the opening albeit short, pitch of the All-Star game the other week.

David Karaffa is appealing to even a Democrat

Chris Graham, over at the Augusta Free Press writes............"I do know a little about David Karaffa, a 25-year-old cardiac nurse from Stuarts Draft and former member of the executive committee of the Augusta County Republican Committee. I first ran into Karaffa at a Mark Warner town hall in Staunton in April the day after the nationwide tea-party protests. Karaffa worked his way into the public limelight at the town hall by raising issue with the federal stimulus with Warner in the question-and-answer session and then finagling a photo op out of the United States senator for his troubles afterward.

The Karaffa candidacy, I have to say, is most intriguing to me, because Karaffa appears to me to be the one candidate in this field who would be able to fire up the Republican base, which is important because the Republicans are going to need to have an energized base to do the heavy lifting in this suddenly competitive campaign."

David has thrown his hat into the ring for Saxman's Delegate seat.

The Science and Public Policy Institute announces a study by Joanne Nova revealing that the federal Government has a near-monopsony(Look it up here) on climate science funding. This distorts the science towards self-serving alarmism.
Some Key findings:
Ø The US Government has spent more than $79 billion of taxpayers’ money since 1989 on policies related to climate change, including science and technology research, administration, propaganda campaigns, foreign aid, and tax breaks. Most of this spending was unnecessary.

Ø Despite the billions wasted, audits of the science are left to unpaid volunteers. A dedicated but largely uncoordinated grassroots movement of scientists has sprung up around the globe to test the integrity of “global warming” theory and to compete with a lavishly-funded, highly-organized climate monopsony. Major errors have been exposed again and again.

Ø Meanwhile, in a distracting sideshow, Exxon-Mobil Corp is repeatedly attacked for paying just $23 million to skeptics—less than a thousandth of what the US government spends on alarmists, and less than one five-thousandth of the value of carbon trading in 2008 alone.

Ø By pouring so much money into pushing a single, scientifically-baseless agenda, the Government has created not an unbiased investigation but a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Obama is sooooo right.“greater inefficiencies”

“Greater Inefficiencies”
He says that Obamacare would bring “greater inefficiencies” to the country’s health care system.

Senator Cardin insults a citizen at town hall meeting.

He basically called the man a deadbeat, a cheat.
"I decided not to get the health insurance. That's working out for me because I'm able to save that extra money and give it to my family members and use it on myself. Senator Cardin, I want to know are you going to tell me an individual...that I have to buy health care or else you're going to fine me $2,500 every year I don't get it? Our founding fathers assured us we have a Bill of Rights and I want to see you uphold that," Robert Broadus of Clinton, Maryland said in an increasingly emotional voice and to scattered applause.
Maryland Senator Ben Cardin, a Democrat responded by asking Broadus what would happen if he became sick, broke a bone, had a car accident and ended up in an emergency room.

"You don't pay. You are part of the population that shifts its costs over to a person who does pay, and they're paying for you," Cardin said.
How dare a Senator question the integrity of a man? How dare he question the ability of a man to pay his bill's?

Make sure Congress puts themselves into the Obamacare program that they vote for the rest of America.

Rep. Roy Blunt (R-MO)in a one-minute address to congress.
Blunt used his time to propose an amendment to the health overhaul bill that would force federal officials from the President to Congress to put their health care money where their mouths are, and to accept the Democrats’ proposed “public option” — or government-run insurance plan — as their sole source of health coverage.

Mr. Speaker, if the Energy and Commerce Committee had continued to work today, I would have introduced an amendment to require all federal elected officials, including the President and Vice President, to set aside our health care benefits and enroll in their new idea of a government-run health care system. If the majority is really so confident that their plan will provide the very best health care for the people we represent, we ought to demonstrate that confidence by enrolling ourselves.

I, for one, don’t believe a government-run health care plan will be the best for the people we represent, but a government competitor will soon be all that is left.

A government competitor, Mr. Speaker, would be like an elephant in a room full of mice. The fast mice get out of the room as quick as they can, the slow mice get crushed, and only the elephant is left.

"Transparent" Obama Admin hiding bad news

AP reports that the White House is being forced to acknowledge the wide gap between its once-upbeat predictions about the economy and today's bleak landscape.

The administration's annual midsummer budget update is sure to show higher deficits and unemployment and slower growth than projected in President Barack Obama's budget in February and update in May, and that could complicate his efforts to get his signature health care and global-warming proposals through Congress.

The release of the update—usually scheduled for mid-July—has been put off until the middle of next month, giving rise to speculation the White House is delaying the bad news at least until Congress leaves town Aug. 7 on its summer recess.

For those of you who missed it, Chris Saxman is not running

Retiring Delegate Chris Saxman.

Here is a copy of his letter:
July 17, 2009

Dear Friends,

I have been honored to serve in the Virginia House of Delegates and represent the great City of Staunton, Highland County and parts of Augusta and Rockingham Counties. It has been a true privilege to work alongside of the citizens of the 20th District for the past eight years. I am humbled by the trust that has been given me by the voters of this district for four terms. I have tried every day to serve you to the best of my ability.

The responsibility of representing you requires, and you deserve, a full-time commitment. As I have recently felt pulled to pursue new opportunities to serve my community and our Commonwealth, I believe the time has come for me to step away from my current elected position. As such, I have decided that I will not seek re-election this November to the Virginia House of Delegates.

I’ve always believed in a part-time legislature and that our Founding Fathers thought it a good idea to leave the State Capitol for a while and recharge. I have had a view of state government from the inside for eight years as an elected representative, and I now have a better understanding of how our government can be improved. However, if you are only looking out, as I have been, you can’t always see clearly what needs to be done on the inside.

I continue to have a strong commitment to public service, and I plan to remain active working to advance commonsense conservative solutions and work on issues about which I am passionate. There are many ways to serve, and I am blessed that several new opportunities to continue this service have presented themselves. I know that now is the time to pursue those projects fully, and I look forward to sharing more details about each of these projects in the near future.

For the past eight years, I have been working diligently on issues that I know will help our families, our Commonwealth and our nation. One of these projects is school choice and ensuring that every child has access to the educational options that will give them the best opportunity for success. It is an issue I have fought for in the legislature, and as many of you know, a year ago I launched School Choice Virginia to further our efforts in this arena. I now look forward to taking a more active role in promoting this issue, which I believe I can better do outside of the confines of the legislature.

We have accomplished so many great things for our district and our Commonwealth by working together – from finally realizing the consolidation of the Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind to Staunton, to keeping the Commonwealth Center for Children & Adolescents open as a vital safety net for some of the most at-risk children in Virginia. From passing important legislation to improve our air quality, to working to make our government more accountable, transparent and competitive – it has been an amazing journey, and I am grateful that I was able to be a part of those efforts.

There are so many people I want to thank who have supported me while serving in the legislature. First and foremost, I am deeply grateful for the love and patience of my wife and my children who have always supported me and stood beside me. I also want to thank the rest of my family, who gave me the love of public service that I still hold today. I also want to express my deepest appreciation to my friends – too many people to list individually – but their support, advice, guidance, and generosity have meant more to me than I can ever express with words.

To my colleagues in the House, Republicans, Democrats and Independents, I want to say a very special thank you for allowing me to serve alongside you. You quite simply are the best people I have ever known. Your integrity, honesty and dedication to this great experiment we call America is what makes Virginia the greatest part of the greatest nation in human history.

I know that America’s and Virginia’s best days are ahead, and I pledge to continue working to promote commonsense policies to get us moving in the right direction. I look forward to the challenges and opportunities ahead, and continuing to work with you to ensure that our future is brighter than ever.

May God bless you and your family.

Sincerely,

Chris Saxman

Did Obama appoint a Jailbird as his "Green Czar"?

PHIL KERPEN, AFP Policy Director says of Van Jones, Obama's new Green Czar,

"He has a very checkered past. This is somebody who was involved in radical politics out in San Francisco, California. He was arrested during a demonstration/riot following the Rodney King verdict. And he said himself that he was radicalized in jail, that he found communism and anarchism. And then he started a pretty radical, kind of communist, socialist, utopian group that was supposed to end all racism though central planning. And then he decided that the real path the sort of progressive nirvana, was the this green jobs idea. I think its pretty instructive what his past is, I am not just trying to smear the guy, but I think it’s the same sort of philosophy, the idea that government ought to be reordering society in accordance with some utopian vision that failed with communism and socialism, and will fail with this green jobs idea. We are imposing a top-down vision."

The administration’s “czars” do not go through congressional confirmation, and are therefore not scrutinized or vetted, many Americans have no idea who they are or where they come from. They don't go thru Senate Scrutiny.

Cover-up? More Nixonian stuff coming from Obama White House?

See the full story here

Repubs call for action.........

Rep. James Sensenbrenner, R-WI, is demanding a congressional investigation of Browner's conduct in the CAFE talks, saying in a letter to Rep. Henry Waxman, D-CA, that Browner "intended to leave little or no documentation of the deliberations that lead to stringent new CAFE standards."

Federal law requires officials to preserve documents concerning significant policy decisions, so instructing participants in a policy negotation concerning a major federal policy change could be viewed as a criminal act.
