Sotmayor Resigns from Elite All Woman Club. She must have read my blog. HAHA

Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor resigned from an elite all-women's club after Republicans questioned her participation in it. (See original post here)
Sotomayor said she resigned from the Belizean Grove to prevent the issue from becoming a distraction in her confirmation hearings.( too late)
"The Belizean Grove is a constellation of influential women who are key decision makers in the profit, non-profit and social sectors; who build long term mutually beneficial relationships in order to both take charge of their own destinies and help others to do the same," the group says on its Web site.
Sotomayor is member of all-female elite club.

Guess who wrote the article that the following excepts are from.......
President Obama's first Supreme Court nominee is a member of an all-women's club called the Belizean Grove.
If Obama had nominated a man who was a member of an all male club, that would be a big issue and probably a fatal one. So how is it different if Sotomayor is a member of a club set up specifically to be the female equivalent?
It's the openly expressed purpose of this organization is to create a female elite.
Sotomayor chose to make the preposterous argument that the Belizean Grove isn't a women's club. It's just that no men have ever applied for membership, you see. White clubs used to explain the absence of black members the same way. It's a laughable argument -- a brazen whopper -- and an insult to the citizenry and the Senate that must confirm her.
Was it some right wing hardliner? Was it a Republican Senator?
No , it is from little Michael Kinsley of Crossfire fame

The Hurrier I go, the Behinder I get.
Why are the Dems, in a Rush-Rush Mode?
Are they hoping to keep Sonia Sotomayor off the radar? Is there something that the Democrats are trying to slide through without scutiny?
They kept some Republican nominees waiting for YEARS. Justice Janice Brown waited two years.

Sotomayor turns MLK Jr. upside down
She judges firemen not on their qualifications,
but on the color of their skin.........
Charles Krauthammer Writes..............
Sonia Sotomayor has a classic American story. So does Frank Ricci.
Ricci is a New Haven firefighter stationed seven blocks from where Sotomayor went to law school (Yale). Raised in blue-collar Wallingford, Conn., Ricci struggled as a C and D student in public schools ill-prepared to address his serious learning disabilities. Nonetheless he persevered, becoming a junior firefighter and Connecticut's youngest certified EMT.
After studying fire science at a community college, he became a New Haven "truckie," the guy who puts up ladders and breaks holes in burning buildings. When his department announced exams for promotions, he spent $1,000 on books, quit his second job so he could study eight to 13 hours a day and, because of his dyslexia, hired someone to read him the material.

He placed sixth on the lieutenant's exam, which qualified him for promotion. Except that the exams were thrown out by the city, and all promotions denied, because no blacks had scored high enough to be promoted.
Ricci (with 19 others) sued.
That's where these two American stories intersect. Sotomayor was a member of the three-member circuit court panel that upheld the dismissal of his case, thus denying Ricci his promotion..........
Krauthammer says, Republicans should call Frank Ricci as their first witness. Democrats want justice rooted in empathy? Let Ricci tell his story, and let the American people judge whether his promotion should have been denied because of his skin color in a procedure Sotomayor joined in calling "facially race-neutral."
I have studied for Civil Service Exams. I spent two years studying for Lieutenant. I gave up my lunch breaks everyday to study.I listened to recordings of material back and forth to and from work everyday. I spent my own money to go to classes. I spent much of my free time involved in preparation. To have all that thrown out, to have all that work negated, just because a judge didn't like the results, didn't like the color of my skin, would be a crushing blow. I understand the history of America, but Frank Ricci did not deny anyone the right to study, to achieve. Frank Ricci had his American Dream derailed by racism. It was a terrible thing in the past. Doing again to a different group, doesn't make it right.

"Angry" Sonia?? Does she have the temperment???
Lawyers who have argued cases before Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor call her "nasty," "angry" and a "terror on the bench," according to the current Almanac of the Federal Judiciary -- a kind of Zagat's guide to federal judges.
The withering evaluation of Judge Sotomayor's temperament stands in stark contrast to reviews of her peers on the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. Of the 21 judges evaluated, the same lawyers gave 18 positive to glowing reviews and two judges received mixed reviews. Judge Sotomayor was the only one to receive decidedly negative comments.
Judge Sotomayor's demeanor on the bench will be one of the issues the Senate Judiciary Committee tackles when she appears for her confirmation hearing. A lack of a good temperament has been used as a line of attack against nominees in the past - most notably conservative Judge Robert H. Bork, whose nomination to the Supreme Court was defeated.

Sotomeyer, Racist?
“I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life,”said Judge Sotomayor.
If the inverse was ever said by a white male judge, do you think we would be considering him for the Supreme Court? Do you think he should even be on the bench?
“Whether born from experience or inherent physiological or cultural differences,” she said, for jurists who are women and nonwhite, “our gender and national origins may and will make a difference in our judging.” Shouldn't she be judging on the merits of the case, not on her gender?
That is clearly a racist view. See the full NY Times story here

"For there is no liberty, if the power of judging be not separated from the executive and legislative powers."
A few weeks ago I posted about Sonia Sotomeyer on Yankeephilip.
Enjoy the video. At 15 seconds in, she says"Court of Appeals is where policy is made.
Maybe she should be introduced to Federalist paper #78?
The judiciary . . . may truly be said to have neither FORCE nor WILL, but merely judgment; and must ultimately depend upon the aid of the executive arm even for the efficacy of its judgments.....
It proves incontestably, that the judiciary is beyond comparison the weakest of the three departments of power; that it can never attack with success either of the other two . . . that . . . the general liberty of the people can never be endangered from that quarter; I mean, so long as the judiciary remains truly distinct from both the legislative and the Executive.......
