I got a quick reply from Michigan Lawmaker

It doesn't say a darn thing,
but it was quick
Thank you for e-writing to the office of State Senator Bruce Patterson. Due to the economic challenges being confronted by every sector of our economy, Sen. Patterson has chosen to automate various functions of his Lansing office in order to save taxpayer dollars. This decision has resulted in Sen. Patterson being able to return $40,000 or 70% of his allocated office account for the last Fiscal Year. But it also means he has fewer staff personnel than authorized.

As a consequence of this decision, certain requests from constituents may take longer to fulfill. With a smaller staff, and due to the Committee assignments of the Senator, e-mails are triaged and then delegated based on pre-determined factors. For instance, e-mails are answered if they come from within the sixteen municipalities of the Seventh Senate District. Moreover, individualized e-mails take priority over form mail.

Again, we hope you understand the Senator's desire to be responsive all the while being fiscally sensitive to the demands on taxpayers and their respective financial circumstances.

You may want to check out the e-office of Sen. Bruce Patterson. There you can find interesting items and other ways to provide input. Below you will find the link.

In order to assist you more quickly, please be sure to provide your home mailing address and phone number since your inquiry may necessitate a follow-up call for additional information.

Again, thank you for contacting us. Please let us know if we can ever be of additional assistance in the future.

Sincerely,

Bob Mauseth

A Michigan lawmaker wants to license reporters to ensure they’re credible and vet them for “good moral character.”according to Fox News
Senator Bruce Patterson(This idiot is a Republican too. If you want to contact him, click here) is introducing legislation that will regulate reporters much like the state does with hairdressers, auto mechanics and plumbers. Patterson, who also practices constitutional law, says that the general public is being overwhelmed by an increasing number of media outlets--traditional, online and citizen generated--and an even greater amount misinformation.

It is not just Michigan. The Federal Trade Commission wants Federal Control.

Mark Tapscott, over at the Washington Examiner says.....

* Journalists must understand that there is no way the First Amendment's guarantee of freedom of the press will survive if the federal government regulates the news industry as envisioned by the FTC. Those who accept at face value protests to the contrary or the professions of pure intentions by advocates of government takeover of the news business are, at best, incredibly naive.

* Journalists who remain silent or apathetic about what is being prepared by the FTC for their profession become unintentional accessories in the strangulation of independent journalism.

* Journalists who support or assist, for any reason, the FTC process are accomplices in the strangulation of independent journalism.

I sent a quick email to this State Senator...

I don't know if you read the Constitution recently.
The 1st amendment says....
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

That applies to Michigan Senate too.
All it will do is put the licensing of the press into hands of politicians and bureaucrats and we can say good-bye to the First Amendment. It will close down blogs, alternative media, and talk radio. It will close down freedom.
If journalists were licensed in the 18th century, we would not have had Thomas Paine, or the Federalist Papers.

Obama Nominee Loves Rationed Healthcare

During the debate over ObamaCare, the bill’s opponents were excoriated for talk of rationing and “death panels.”.....
Well the President Hired Dr.Ration
If President Obama wanted to keep a lid on that particular controversy, he just selected about the worst possible nominee for director of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services..... Obama’s pick, Dr. Donald Berwick, is an outspoken admirer of the British National Health Service and its rationing arm, the National Institute for Clinical Effectiveness (NICE).....

“I am romantic about the National Health Service. I love it,” Berwick said during a 2008 speech to British physicians, going on to call it “generous, hopeful, confident, joyous, and just.”

With the creation of NICE, the U.K. government has effectively put a dollar amount to how much a citizen’s life is worth. To be exact, each year of added life is worth approximately $44,305 (£30,000). Of course, this is a general rule and, as NICE chairman Michael Rawlins points out, the agency has sometimes approved treatments costing as much as $70,887 (£48,000) per year of extended life.

To Dr. Berwick , this is exactly how it should be. “NICE is not just a national treasure,” he says, “it is a global treasure.”

And, Dr. Berwick wants to bring NICE-style rationing to this country.
“It’s not a question of whether we will ration care,” he said in a magazine interview for Biotechnology Healthcare, “It is whether we will ration with our eyes open.”

Where's Obama??

Golfing again?? Vacation in Chicago?

Five weeks into the oil rig disaster and the best President Obama can do is force his underlings to attempt to rewrite the events. The mandatory administration catch phrase “we were there from day one” is spewing from the mouths of Obama’s spokesmen and apologists faster than the oil in the gulf. Yet everyone knows that Obama was not there. And he’s still not there.

Fort Hood, nothing from Obama for days. Airline attempts? Again, Obama is missing for days. ....Where was Obama? Missing........

In fact, the only time Obama has been in front of a situation involved a Harvard Professor and apologies over beers. And he was wrong about the police acting stupidly. Turns out, only the president acted stupidly.

Is the Gadsden Flag becoming tabboo?

The Warren Rhode Island Fire Department got in trouble Friday morning when they raised one of the nation’s oldest from one of three flagpoles they have at the Warren Town Common. They raised the Gadsden Flag.

Some RI Libs protested and the firemen were ordered to take it down.

“At first I thought it was a joke,” said Warren Fire Chief Al Galinelli. “The flag was put up because it’s a flag from the revolution and a lot of Warren guys fought in the revolution. It was only put up to memorialize them. Flying the flag does not mean we’re supporting any political party or movment.” See more here

Rush Limbaugh Has 10 Questions for Obama.

"Better Late Than Never?"

Number one: Do you prefer golf or basketball when avoiding the hard work of being president?

Number two: Approximately 70% of the American people approve of Arizona's immigration law and want the border sealed. What do you do, Hugo Chavez, Fidel Castro, and Felipe Calderon know about these matters that we don't?

Number three: You say that you won't rest until every American has a job and the Gulf oil spill is capped and the area cleaned up. Well, why are you vacationing in Chicago over the Memorial Day weekend and then returning to Washington for a Paul McCartney concert?

Number four: Speaking of Memorial Day, why not commemorate the day at Arlington National Cemetery? Are you avoiding Arlington due to the fact that you embarrassed yourself there a few years ago when you said, "On this Memorial Day, as our nation honors its unbroken line of fallen heroes, and I see many of them in the audience here today, our sense of patriotism is particularly strong." Remember him saying that? He saw many of our fallen heroes in the audience, meaning he saw the walking dead. Remember he said that?

Number five: When you do deliver your Memorial Day remarks, if the word "corpsman" pops up on your teleprompter, how will you pronounce the word, "corpsman" or "corpesman"?

Number six: did you learn to solve big problems by putting your boot on people's necks from Frank Marshall Davis, Saul Alinsky, Bill Ayers, Jeremiah Wright, or Rahm Emanuel?

Number seven: When you said to your staff, "Plug the damn hole," was it your impression that BP had not yet thought of that, and did it take you five weeks to come up with that solution? What were some of the other ideas you had, if this was your latest and greatest idea, plug the hole?

Number eight: When it comes to Gulf oil spill, would you say that better late than never is your motto, or is it, why do today what can be done tomorrow?

Number nine: Should the American people be saying "thank you" for the economy and for your response to the Gulf oil spill?

Number ten: Does the Mexican president ever object to what you tell him to say?

Hillary Clinton doesnt let facts get in the way of ideology

"Jihad is a... legitimate tenet of Islam" says Obama Admin

"Jihad is a... legitimate tenet of Islam"
The president's top counterterrorism adviser,John Brennan on Wednesday called jihad a "legitimate tenet of Islam," arguing that the term "jihadists" should not be used to describe America's enemies.....

"Nor do we describe our enemy as 'jihadists' or 'Islamists' because jihad is a holy struggle, a legitimate tenet of Islam, meaning to purify oneself or one's community, and there is nothing holy or legitimate or Islamic about murdering innocent men, women and children," Brennan said.

The Census Bureau may be playing games.

A Whistle Blower, Naomi Cohn, told The New York Post that she was hired and fired a number of times by Census. Each time she was hired back, it seems, Census was able to report the creation of a new job to the Labor Department.

John Crudele reports that he received letters

"John: I am on my fourth rehire with the 2010 Census.
"I have been hired, trained for a week, given a few hours of work, then laid off. So my unemployed self now counts for four new jobs.
"I have been paid more to train all four times than I have been paid to actually produce results. These are my tax dollars and your tax dollars at work.
"A few months ago I was trained for three days and offered five hours of work counting the homeless. Now, I am knocking (on) doors trying to find the people that have not returned their Census forms. I worked the 2000 Census. It was a far more organized venture.
"Have to run and meet my crew leader, even though with this rain I did not work today. So I can put in a pay sheet for the hour or hour and a half this meeting will take.

Are the Obama folk playing games with the employment numbers?
Are they running a Ponzi type scheme?
Are the Labor Department folk aware of the scamming at Census?

Raising Arizona... Fun Starts at 45 Seconds

Professor Soto has some fun on the dais.

“The new Arizona law generally known as SB 1070 is considered the strictest anti-immigrant legislation in the country and is explicitly intended to drive undocumented immigrants out of the state. One reason it has instigated a boycott is because to a whole lot of people, myself included, it appears to not only invite but require the police to engage in racial profiling.
Says Prof.Soto

I am guessing Legal Studies is not part of the curriculum. She obviously did not read the law.

The Journey got me thinking of architects

The Journey has a post on
Benjamin Banneker
This is on another architect,
Joseph François Mangin
The old St. Patrick's Cathedral (1809-15, at Prince and Mott Streets)

Joseph François Mangin,(1764-after 1818)Born a slave in Haiti, Mangin escaped in 1791 during a slave rebellion and fled to France. In Paris he studied architecture until the French rebellion when once again he was forced to flee, this time to New York City. Mangin became a U.S. citizen in 1796 and worked for several years as a city surveyor in New York. He also worked on harbor fortifications in 1801 and in 1813, during the War of 1812. Mangin is primarily known as an architect. Among his most noted achievements are New York City Hall (1802, with John McComb, Jr.), and the old St. Patrick's Cathedral (1809-15, at Prince and Mott Streets).New York City Hall

Mangin, a cultivated Frenchman in exile from revolution, arrived here in 1794. Mangin was quickly designated a city surveyor, one of a handful of men effectively licensed to do private and public surveys. In 1797, the city contracted with Mangin (and a partner who soon died) to conduct the first comprehensive survey of the city since the Revolution and issue a detailed city plan. Mangin walked the city and its suburban fringes by day and worked his calculations and field notes by night. When another surveyor asked for a look at the progress of his plan, Mangin refused, with the remarkable statement that it was “not the plan of the city the city such as it is, but such as it is to be.”
Finally, in early 1803, Mangin released to the city government his map, 6 feet square. It, indeed, was not the accurate plan of the existing city that it was supposed to be. It was a plan for how the city ought to develop, from the drafting table of a refined European. In the city proper, Mangin idealized crooked Dutch-era streets by straightening and widening them. He widened the city itself with streets that had not yet been created by river landfill. Moving north into the countryside — up to what became 14th St. — he plotted sections of rectilinear grid, set at acute angles to each other. Some grid sections had wide and long streets, others had narrow and short streets: each by its particular dimensions had an individual character, for commercial, residential or mixed use. Mangin linked this network of grids from the south with relatively numerous radiating roads, some being extensions of existing roads, others new. In the triangular and trapezoidal intersections between grids and between grids and radiating roads were almost countless opportunities for parkland, ornament or open space. Mangin’s plan was irregularity made regular, regularity made irregular. It was European urbanity adapted to a narrow island. Had it been accepted and its concept extended up the island, Manhattan would have become a weak magnet for metal cars and trucks.

After a few months’ enchantment, Mangin’s plan was rejected. The reasons are unclear: powerful jealousies over Mangin’s contemporaneous City Hall design competition victory; American Francophilia that had turned to Francophobia; Mangin’s own arrogance (he always wrote in French); the simple fact that Mangin’s fantastic plan was not the real estate map for which he was hired.

But no sooner was Mangin’s plan dismissed than the city fathers realized that having a development plan was actually a pretty good idea. Joseph Browne, the city street commissioner, was asked to report a plan of his own. But Browne, who had been the leading detractor of Mangin’s plan, was soon off to western adventures with his brother-in-law Aaron Burr (who had prematurely assured Benjamin Latrobe that he would win the City Hall competition).
