The apparatchiks and their use of language in the local paper

"The Democrat politburo pushed through their socialist agenda on Obamacare. It was the most calculated exercise in cynical politics since the Bolsheviks liquidated the Mensheviks."

Would that have been an acceptable quote for the apparatchiks over at the local paper?
That would have been roughly equivalent to their comment on Tea Parties and Race.
If they wanted to suggest that the Tea Party movement was strong and building, maybe they should have said "like the Contract with America" or Ronald Reagan's 2nd Presidential election.
No one believes that they were not trying to couple race with the Tea Party and Republicans.

And my response pointed out the hypocrisy of the Democrats on race.
It also showed the positive history of the Republicans.

CENSORSHIP at News Leader.

LET THE NEWSLEADER KNOW
THAT YOU DON'T LIKE THEIR
CENSORSHIP

Regular readers of this blog will remember that I sent a Letter to the Editor of the Staunton Newsleader.
It started....
In the past, I had thought the Newsleader editorial board was staffed with a few well intentioned liberal-leaning journalists. With Tuesday's editorial I realize I was wrong. The board is made of some full time Democrat Party Apparatchiks.

Well today I have proof. They left out the last two paragraphs of my letter (See what they left out below).
I guess the Dems over at the Newsleader don't want any criticism of the Democrat Party or any praise for Tea Party folk.

Please let them know that you don't appreciate CENSORSHIP. Send in your own Letter to the Editor here or write the Executive Editor Davis Fritz at dfritz@newsleader.com

The worst part of the editorial was the last paragraph, concerning the comparison of the Tea Party movement to racism. The Democrat party is and has been the party that divides people by race. It is the home of Ku Klux Klanner Robert Byrd. It is the party of Jim Crow and Black Codes. It was Democrat Sen.Harry Reid who called President Obama " a light skinned" man without "a negro dialect". President Clinton said that President Obama would be fetching coffee for him and Ted Kennedy.

The very first Black, Mexican, and female members of Congress were all Republicans. It was the first Republican President who sent Americans to die to end the evil of slavery. It was a Republican who wrote the Emancipation Proclamation. It was Democrats who filibustered the 1964 Civil Rights Acts. It was Republican Senator Everett Dirksen wrote the language for the 1965 Voting Rights Act and the 1968 Civil Rights Bill. A. Phillip Randolph, a Republican organized Republican Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's March on DC for his famous "I have a dream" speech. It is the Republican Party that wants people to be judged by the content of their character, not the color of their skin.

Newsleader Letter to the Editor,

I don't know if this will get published, but I sent it to the local paper today.

In the past, I had thought the Newsleader editorial board was staffed with a few well intentioned liberal-leaning journalists. With Tuesday's editorial I realize I was wrong. The board is made of some full time Democrat Party Apparatchiks.

The editorial was nothing but Democrat talking points and "progressive" group think.
34 Democrats break away from the party, and you call it unity. "Almost Immediate" delivery of new benefits is contradicted on the previous page of the paper. Your Rush Limbaugh line was so pathetically wrong that it is laughable. Any honest journalist knows that is not what he said.

The editorial says Republicans had "no viable alternatives." Even Speaker Pelosi was less partisan than the Newsleader. She said that there were 200 Republican Amendments included in the final bill.

Newsleader Does it Again.

In todays Staunton Newsleader, the cartoonist McCloskey goes off the deep end..... again.

His cartoon has a woman writing a letter to Congressman Goodlatte. She tells him that "When you voluntarily give up your free government provided health care, you can advise me on how to manage mine. But until then, shut your pie-hole."

Well Mr.McCloskey, In regard to the first part of the sentence, "When you voluntarily give up your free government provided health care",I am sure you get some form of health care through your paper. Is it free? Or is it, like most people in this country, part of your compensation for employment? All the employees in this country who get health coverage in this country work for their health care. Why would you say that it is "free" for Congress? Is it not part of his compensation package for employment? Do cops, nurses, teachers, etc, who work for a county, city, state or federal government get "free" health care from the government? Or do they work for it?

As to the second part of the sentence,"you can advise me on how to manage mine", the letter writer is asking the government to manage here health care already. She is looking for "government takeover of health care." She wants the taxpayers of this country to pay for her health care. If she managed her own, as she states in the letter, there would be no question of which way she would want Congressman Goodlatte to vote.

Last year, Congressman Goodlatte received 62% of the vote in the 6th Congressional District. In 2009, Governor-Elect McDonnell received about 75% of the vote in the 6th District. Both elected officials were against a government run health care system. So who do you think the voters of the valley would agree with? The Congressman, or your fictional cartoon lady?

I have said this before, Remember the slogan,"The customer is always right." Well the Newsleader should figure out if they want to be a little niche player in a dying market, or an expanding player in the local market. Find the stories that local people want to read. Get an editorial board that is atleast balanced, not one falling off the left end. Appeal to the people who might buy your paper. Go out and get readership. Don't chase them away by telling them that they are wrong, wrong, wrong.

Maybe if the Newsleader would realize that they publish their newspaper in the reddest part of Virginia, they might not be forced to lay people off, or send their printing work to another county.

Newsleader is batting about .285 Congrats..... HAHA

Their batting average was probably about .285 in all the races. Not bad for a baseball player, but TOTAL CRAP in a business model.

They picked the loser every time except two races.
They picked Deeds. Lost big time in Augusta.
They picked Bolling and Shannon. Bolling Won, Shannon lost Big Time in Augusta.
They picked Marrow over Landes. Guess who won?
And the Newsleader published letter, after letter, after letter, praising Dem candidates. Nary a one for a Republican candidate.
I don't know if the Gannett people or the Newsleader folks looked at the election results, but over 70% of the county voted Republican. The possible readership of their paper voted overwhelmingly for Republicans.

As a business model, I think they should try appealing to the majority of the people in their readership area, not just the NoVa transplants into downtown Staunton.

Remember the slogan,"The customer is always right." Well the Newsleader should figure out if they want to be a little niche player in a dying market, or an expanding player in the local market. Find the stories that local people want to read. Get an editorial board that is atleast balanced, not one falling off the left end. Appeal to the people who might buy your paper. Go out and get readership. Don't chase them away by telling them that they are wrong, wrong, wrong.

I find it interesting to read the Newsleader. I also found it interesting to read the Village Voice in NYC. I want to know what the left is thinking. The regular reader picks up the Newsleader and says, "Newsleader, wrong again!" That is no way to keep a paper in circulation.

"GOP using fear tactics" says the NewsLeader....

50 DEMS vote for a bill, but it is the REPUBS fault.
The Democrat NewsLeader is DEEP in the Dems pocket
The paranoia extends to the chambers of Capitol Hill where the Senate voted 90-6(How do you blame Republicans when there are only 40 Republicans? That means atleast 50 DEMS voted for it) recently to block the transfer of Guantanamo detainees to the U.S. and denied President Obama the millions he sought to close the prison.
FBI Director Robert Mueller told Congress that bringing the detainees to the U.S. could pose risks "from concerns about providing financing, (and) radicalizing others to the potential for individuals undertaking attacks in the United States."Again, blatant fear-mongering.(What sort of a moron would say that is not a reality? They have done it in the past in other countries) How can it be that our prisons are able to hold the worst of the worst, such as Charles Manson, the Unabomber, Jeffrey Dahmer and our own home-grown terrorist, Timothy McVeigh, until he was executed, but we can't handle Gitmo detainees? (Hey Newsleader, was any terrorist group trying to get Charles Manson out of prison?) Perhaps the Republicans should have more faith in the prison facilities they have so staunchly advocated being built.
Maybe David Frist and Co, should read todays UK Times
