The Executive Branch executes the law. The Executive decides what is open and what is closed.
They shut down Hippy Drum Circle.
They shut down the Amber Alert, but they had to open it again
They shut down the USDA web site
They shut down a privatly owned restaurant
They shut down private homes
They shut down Armed Forces Radio
They shut down the Blue Ridge Inn
They shut down the IwoJima Memorial
Heck, they even tried to shut down the ocean
BUT, 83% of the government is still open.
AND President Obama's Golf Course is open

More Harry nixing negotiations
“The Conference is looking at options.”
“Despite the Democrats’ refusal to work with the House to solve the problem, Republicans are working to protect the troops, prevent a shutdown and find solutions to the difficulties caused by Senate Democrats’ delays,” McConnell spokesman Michael Brumas said in a statement.
But Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid shot done the idea outright. Exiting the meeting of Democrats and asked if he was dead set against a one-week CR Reid said, “Yes.”

Repubs Deliver on one promise
In their Pledge to America, House Republican leaders promised to “make Congress do more with less by significantly reducing its budget.” On Jan. 6, 2011, they took action.
By an overwhelming 410-13 vote, House members approved a binding resolution that would cut the operating budget of member and committee offices by 5 percent, or about $35 million annually.
According to the office of Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, the resolution prohibits any congressional office from spending more than 95 percent of what they were allowed to spend last year. If an office requests more money than that, the House’s Chief Administrative Officer will be directed to disallow the request.

Reality sucks for Dem Pundits.....

"It was under Mr Bush that the deficit spiralled out of control as we fought an unnecessary and endless $3,000bn war in Iraq..."
- James Carville, the Financial Times.
"The Iraq adventure has seriously weakened the U.S. economy, whose woes now go far beyond loose mortgage lending. You can't spend $3 trillion -- yes, $3 trillion -- on a failed war abroad and not feel the pain at home."
- Linda J. Bilmes and Joseph E. Stiglitz, The Washington Post.
"First, the facts. Nearly the entire deficit for this year and those projected into the near and medium terms are the result of three things: the ongoing wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, the Bush tax cuts and the recession. The solution to our fiscal situation is: end the wars..."
- Christopher Hayes, The Nation.
According to the Congressional Budget Office, is $709 billion. The Iraq War cost $709 billion.

New "Snow" in Augusta County
Schools closed on account of "Snow"
There was a dusting over here in the Eastern part of Augusta. Maybe there was more out West. Either way, they closed the schools today.
I wonder what that costs the county?
How many people still have to get paid, even though they didn't work?
How many people still have to be in the schools even though they are closed?
I wonder what the cost to families is?
How much is a day lost at work so you can watch your kids?
How much for Child Care?
I can understand when there is an actual reason to close the schools, but come on?
There was hardly a dusting this time.
Save the days for when there is a real snow.
Otherwise we will have more Headlines like this.

How Big is YOUR Deficit President Obama? And You dare to talk about "Monopoly Money"?
After he blames what he inherited, as usual, he then goes on to ignore his role in the process.

Pork is busting out all over.
Shepard Smith and David Williams tackle latest Budget.
Fish food in Missouri.
Bicycle racks in wealthy Georgetown.
Water taxis to "nowhere" in Connecticut.
Bike Racks in Georgetown.
Water Taxi to nowhere.
Skateboard Park.
1/2 mil for homeless in town with no homeless.
These are among the most wasteful spending projects before Congress this year The attention on pork comes as Congress prepares to raise the federal debt ceiling while pushing a new jobs-creation package that could run into the hundreds of billions.
