Lydia Fox says the principal at Parkview Elementary called her earlier this month to tell Fox her 7-year-old son had misbehaved during a school assembly by pretending he was shooting a gun.

Fox says the principal told her the boy would be placed in in-school suspension for the rest of that day and threatened a longer suspension if it happened again.

Midwest City-Del City Schools spokeswoman Stacey Boyer confirmed the incident and says the district's policy is to "address the disruption of the learning environment."

The Council on American-Islamic Relations said it will remove a poster from the group's website promoting an upcoming conference that encourages people not to talk to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, according to Fox

The poster, which appeared on the website of CAIR’s California chapter, features a sinister-looking FBI agent with the headlines “Build a Wall of Resistance” and “Don’t Talk to the FBI.” The poster was designed in the late 1970s or early 1980s and has been reproduced by various groups and activists since then in response to alleged harassment by the FBI and to protest grand jury subpoenas.

“I think it’s subject to misinterpretation,” spokesman Ibrahim Hooper told Fox News Radio when speaking about the poster. “We decided out of extreme caution to take it down.”

Loughner "might have gone to some other rallies," he says—but Bryce Tierney., in a story for Mother Jones,  notes it was a significant moment for Loughner:"He told me that she opened up the floor for questions and he asked a question. The question was, 'What is government if words have no meaning?'"

Once, Tierney recalls, Loughner told him, "I'm pretty sure I've come to the conclusion that words mean nothing."
Loughner would occasionally mention Giffords, according to Tierney: "It wasn't a day-in, day-out thing, but maybe once in a while, if Giffords did something that was ridiculous or passed some stupid law or did something stupid, he related that to people. But the thing I remember most is just that question. I don't remember him stalking her or anything." Tierney notes that Loughner did not display any specific political or ideological bent: "It wasn't like he was in a certain party or went to rallies...It's not like he'd go on political rants." But Loughner did, according to Tierney, believe that government is "fucking us over."

A mass shooting took place Saturday morning at an event hosted by 3rd term Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords (D-Az).

At least 12 people were wounded and Giffords was one of them. The shooter is in custody, according a law enforcement spokesman.
UPDATE: Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords battled for her life on Sunday after a man shot her in the head and killed six people in a rampage that fueled debate about extreme political rhetoric in America.
The suspect, identified as Jared Lee Loughner, 22, opened fire with a semi-automatic pistol at point-blank range outside a supermarket, killing six people including federal judge John Roll and a 9-year-old girl. Twelve people were wounded.

Repubs Deliver on one promise

In their Pledge to America, House Republican leaders promised to “make Congress do more with less by significantly reducing its budget.” On Jan. 6, 2011, they took action.
By an overwhelming 410-13 vote, House members approved a binding resolution that would cut the operating budget of member and committee offices by 5 percent, or about $35 million annually.

According to the office of Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, the resolution prohibits any congressional office from spending more than 95 percent of what they were allowed to spend last year. If an office requests more money than that, the House’s Chief Administrative Officer will be directed to disallow the request.

Electric Cars May Accelerate CO2 Emissions, according to study

Printed in Forbes......Countries with dirty power supplies – like India and China – widespread adoption of electric vehicles could lead to more – not less – CO2 emissions compared to widespread adoption of gasoline based vehicles, unless dramatically less CO2 intensive.

Here is how the mechanics of the analysis worked:

This study aimed to determine the CO2 emissions stemming from [battery electric vehicles (BEVs)] operation in different countries and to compare those CO2 emissions to the emissions from similar vehicles based on internal combustion engines (ICEs). This study selected four ICE-based vehicles, and modeled BEVs based on the specifications of each of these vehicles. The modeled BEVs were run through a simulation to determine their energy consumption. Their energy consumption was combined with data on the CO2 intensity of the power generation mix in different countries to reveal the emissions resulting from BEV operation. The CO2 emissions from the BEVs were compared to the CO2 emissions for their ICE-based counterparts. Amongst the results, it was shown that for China and India, and other countries with a similarly high CO2 intensity, unless power generation becomes dramatically less CO2 intensive, BEVs will not be able to deliver a meaningful decrease in CO2 emissions and an increase in the penetration of BEVs could actually lead to higher CO2 emissions.
