There was a dusting over here in the Eastern part of Augusta. Maybe there was more out West. Either way, they closed the schools today.
I wonder what that costs the county?
How many people still have to get paid, even though they didn't work?
How many people still have to be in the schools even though they are closed?
I wonder what the cost to families is?
How much is a day lost at work so you can watch your kids?
How much for Child Care?
I can understand when there is an actual reason to close the schools, but come on?
There was hardly a dusting this time.
Save the days for when there is a real snow.

They have six snow days to burn each year. Better to close on a cold day in January than add an extra unplanned day off in late May.
ReplyDeleteBack in 1997 I think? it was around that time. The school gambled on a small amout of snow like this and did a two hour delay. A cafeteria worker on her way to school that morning hit a patch of ice, upset and she died on the scene. Since then they havent taken any chances. So the cost of that gamble? A human life.
