Keith S. Fimian, the Republican candidate in the 11th Congressional District, said today that he will not pursue a recount in his contest with Democrat Rep. Gerald E. Connolly, but he left the door open to reconsideration if the canvass significantly alters the results.
Fimian and Connolly are 981 votes apart, according to the Virginia State Board of Elections. With that margin, Fimian is entitled to request a recount after the state certifies the results on Nov. 22.
The presumptive losing candidate can petition for a recount if the difference between the candidates is not more than 1 percent of the total votes cast for the two candidates. Recounts are not subject to appeal.
In a statement released today, Fimian congratulates Connolly on his victory and said, "For me, today is the end of this campaign."
