RINO asks Repubs to get onboard with Al Gore's team
He says in a Washington Post article....
In a trio of reports released in May, the prestigious and nonpartisan National Academy concluded that "a strong, credible body of scientific evidence shows that climate change is occurring, is caused largely by human activities and poses significant risks for a broad range of human and natural systems." Our nation's most authoritative and respected scientific body couldn't make it any clearer or more conclusive.
He further says....
Today, climate scientists - careful as ever in portraying what they know vs. what they suspect - report that the body of scientific evidence supporting the consensus on climate change and its cause is as comprehensive and exhaustive as anything produced by the scientific community.
Maybe Sherwood missed the news on Climategate....
"Perhaps one of the biggest issues with the global data is station dropout after 1990. Over 6000 stations were active in the mid-1990s. Just over 1000 are in use today. The stations that dropped out were mainly rural and at higher latitudes and altitudes — all cooler stations. This alone should account for part of the assessed warming. China had 100 stations in 1950, over 400 in 1960, then only 25 by 1990. This changing distribution makes any assessment of accurate change impossible."
We now know that the Russian station count dropped from 476 to 121, meaning “over 40% of Russian territory was not properly included in global-temperature calculations for some other reasons, rather than the lack of meteorological stations and observations.”

VAVirtucon Points Out More On Climate Gate

One would think that after the numerous findings and reports of data fudging and other shenanigans the folks at East Anglia’s Climate Research Unit would know better than this (Steve Goddard at WUWT):
Why is it that post facto adjustments always seem to be upwards in later years, and downwards in earlier years? This whole global temperature business looks like a complete joke to me.
Did they really think we wouldn’t notice? See the whole post here or here

Accurate Enough????

“My recommendation to you is to continue using … CRU data for the global mean [temperatures]. “What we do is accurate enough we have no intention to compete with either of the other two organizations in what they do best.”
NASA GISS is just “basically a modeling group forced into rudimentary analysis of global observed data.”

Carbon Credit Price Plunges
Carbon prices fall in wake of Copenhagen
Carbon prices plunged yesterday in the aftermath of the Copenhagen conference on climate change, dealing a blow to the credibility of the European Union's carbon-trading scheme.Prices for carbon permits for December 2010 delivery, the benchmark contract for pricing European permits, dropped nearly 10 per cent in early trading, before recovering to end the day 8.3 per cent lower at €12.41, according to the Financial Times
Almost all of the 47,000 residents living on the slopes of a rumbling volcano in the central Philippines have moved to emergency shelters, and lava and earthquakes Tuesday heralded what officials say could be a major eruption.
“Hazardous eruption … can happen today or in the next few days,” said chief state volcanologist Renato Solidum, adding that an eruption also may not happen. “Nobody has a 100 percent accuracy.”
Ash columns were seen rising during a cloud break and Solidum said his team recorded 1,266 volcanic quakes in the last 24 hours, down from nearly 2,000 the previous day. He said that while the quakes were fewer, they were larger.
The emission of sulfur dioxide — an indication of magma rising inside the volcano — was measured at 6,530 tons per day, slightly less than 7,000 tons on Sunday, but still very high, Solidum said. The normal gas emission is 500 tons per day.

CLIMATEGATE HOAX WIDENS MORE ! ! !

Pajamas Media Reports....."Perhaps one of the biggest issues with the global data is station dropout after 1990.
To fill in these large holes, data was extrapolated from great distances away. Often the data came from lower latitude, lower elevation, and higher population centers. In addition to station dropout, the number of missing months increased by as much as tenfold in many of the remaining areas. This required filling in of data from surrounding stations, again sometimes considerable distances away from the missing location. Another opportunity for error, if not mischief.
Newsbusters say....
The focus belongs not just on CRU (the University of East Anglia's Climate Research Unit), but on all of the organizations which gather temperature data. All now show evidence of fraud. That's right, "all." As in, "every." As in, "no exceptions." There is apparently no clean data anywhere. And the raw data? As noted some time ago (at NewsBusters;), that's gone too.
OH BY THE WAY ! ! !

Climategate Widens,

The UK Telegraph adds another chapter to Climategate.....
Climategate has already affected Russia. On Tuesday, the Moscow-based Institute of Economic Analysis (IEA) issued a report claiming that the Hadley Center for Climate Change based at the headquarters of the British Meteorological Office in Exeter (Devon, England) had probably tampered with Russian-climate data.
The IEA believes that Russian meteorological-station data did not substantiate the anthropogenic global-warming theory. Analysts say Russian meteorological stations cover most of the country’s territory, and that the Hadley Center had used data submitted by only 25% of such stations in its reports. Over 40% of Russian territory was not included in global-temperature calculations for some other reasons, rather than the lack of meteorological stations and observations.

Key global climate talks begin in Copenhagen, but........
The summit is testing the capacity limits of the Bella Center, a sprawling conference building outside the city center where the talks are being held.
More than 34,000 people have applied to attend the meetings -- more than double the number allowed to be in the center at any one time.
Non-government organizations have been told some of their members will have to wait outside, while registration has closed early for journalists after 3,500 applied for access.
The U.N. estimates the 12-day conference will create 40,584 tons of carbon dioxide equivalents, roughly the same amount as the carbon emissions of Morocco in 2006.
Those greenhouse gas emissions are comprised of two parts: international travel and local emissions from hotels and transportation venues. Organizers will also reportedly lay 900 kilometers of computer cable and 50,000 square miles of carpet, along with more than 200,000 meals to be served and 200,000 cups of coffee......
Approximately 1200 limos, and 140 aircraft carrying world leaders, heads of state and VIPs will land in Copenhagen, the U.N. estimates — although 95 percent of departures from Copenhagen Airport will be “green departures,” which allow airplanes to climb continuously to their optimal operating level, enabling them to reach planned routes sooner than usual. The result, according to the U.N., is saved time, fuel and carbon emissions.

Our Snow calls for Climategate Vid.
I had this up before, but a H/T to CommonCents for repeat
What an A**hole ! ! ! Global Warming Disciple loses his cool.
Professor Watson talks about character "assassination" and then calls his opponent an asshole. I was taught that when you lower yourself to expletives, you have lost the argument. Clearly, Professor Watson lowered himself to that level.
Maybe he is upset that allllllll that funding money will be drying up and that the professional reputation of Climate Change "Scientists" just got flushed.
Even Jon Stewart gets Climategate.

Climate Change Data Wouldn’t Pass Muster at Grade 9 Science Fair
"CRU is not the universe of climate research, but it is the star. These emails demonstrate one thing beyond all else: that climate science and global warming advocacy have become so entwined, so meshed into a mutant creature, that separating alarmism from investigation, ideology from science, agenda from empirical study, is well nigh impossible. Climategate is evidence that the science has gone to bed with advocacy, and both have had a very good time: - that the neutrality, openness, and absolute disinterest that is the hallmark of all honest scientific endeavour has been abandoned to an atmosphere and a dynamic not superior to the partisan caterwauls of a sub-average Question Period."

Senator Boxer, Did You Ever hear of the US Office of Special Council’s Disclosure Unit
The Hill Reports....... Leaked e-mails allegedly undermining climate change science should be treated as a criminal matter, Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) said Wednesday afternoon.
"You call it 'Climategate'; I call it 'E-mail-theft-gate,''said Boxer.
I am guessing that this is pertinent.....
US Office of Special Council’s Disclosure Unit (DU) serves as a safe conduit for the receipt and evaluation of whistleblower disclosures from federal employees, former employees, and applicants for federal employment. 5 U.S.C. § 1213.
DU attorneys review five types of disclosures specified in the statute: violations of a law, rule or regulation; gross mismanagement; a gross waste of funds; an abuse of authority; and a substantial and specific danger to public health or safety. 5 U.S.C. § 1213(b). The disclosures are evaluated to determine whether or not there is sufficient information to conclude with a substantial likelihood that one of these conditions has been disclosed.
DU evaluates disclosures, which are separate and distinct from complaints of reprisal or retaliation for whistleblowing activities. A reprisal or retaliation claim is reviewed by OSC’s Complaints Examining Unit as a prohibited personnel practice. 5 U.S.C. § 2302(8)(b).
DU processes disclosures differently from other government whistleblower channels in at least three ways: (1) federal law guarantees confidentiality to the whistleblower; (2) the Special Counsel may order an agency head to investigate and report on the disclosure; and (3) after any such investigation, the Special Counsel must send the agency's report, with the whistleblower's comments, to the President and Congressional oversight committees.
As stated above, a whistleblower’s identity will not be revealed without his or her consent. However, in the unusual case where the Special Counsel determines there is an imminent danger to public health or safety or imminent violation of any criminal law, the Special Counsel has the authority to reveal the whistleblower’s identity. 5 U.S.C. § 1213(h).
