The Fox News Sunday host,Chris Wallace asked Dr. Ben Carson if racial profiling is really the threat to young black men. “I don’t think it is,” he answered.
Rep. Donna Edwards (D-MD) interrupted, “I just want to say, Dr. Carson, you really cannot ignore the fact that our young black men, in fact, are profiled.”
African Americans make up 13 percent of the population, Chris Wallace pointed out, “but between 1976 and 2005, they committed more than half of all the murders in the U.S. […]. 93 percent of black murder victims are killed by blacks.”
Based on these numbers, he asked Rep. Donna Edwards (D-MD whether the African American community should be focusing on the “carnage in our inner cities and not on George Zimmerman.”
She responded that black-on-black crime is addressed during discussions on poverty, education and gun laws. When Wallace pressed the question again, Rep. Edwards said, “We’re not sort of one-trick ponies. We’re able to focus on a range of different things.”
