BAN THE YARD SALE ! ! !

Charlottesville is considering imposing new rules to regulate yard sales. Residents would be required to buy a permit to hold one, and would be forbidden to hold too many. No word yet on how many is too many.

WHY??? What is wrong with the people over there???
Are they afraid people will sell junk? Well wealreadyknow it is something thatthe seller doesn't want. Caveat Emptor

Barton Hinkle over at the Richmond Times Dispatch writes.........
And perhaps there is a sense, among some in the tony environs surrounding Mr. Jefferson's University, that yard sales are shabby, white-trash affairs put on by people who are N.O.C.D. -- Not Our Class, Dear. It's one thing to let the riffraff scatter their belongings all over the lawn once in a while, but must one look at the rubbish every weekend? Maybe that's unfair reverse snobbery.
But requiring permits for yard sales is going too far. Why, it's downright un-American, as Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid would say.

  1. That is really stupid and infringes on ones privacy. Those sales are a Brooklyn tradition. In Dyker Hrights they were almost like side walk block parties. It was more about neighbors than selling decrepit Partridge Family albums.

I expect this idiocy in N.Y. not in Va. Did Mayor, tax, Bloomberg become a 2 state Mayor? If so...put your money in a coffee can and bury it.

    Srop the madness, Mr. Y/P

  2. This is silly. Its all about property values and zoning. Somehow I don't think you guys would be too pleased if you lived in a residential sub-division with 1/4 acre building lots and your next door neighbor was running nos-stop yard sales.

  3. Mr. Anon, it is a matter of private property. It is a matter of freedom. It is a matter of capitalism. It is a matter of commerce. How many businesses are started out of a pushcart or a booth or a yard sale. Levi Strauss started his jean company with a wagon.
NIMBY belongs in the dustbin of history or the US will end up in the dustbin.
