The Wall St. Journal reports that a conservative rancher named Porfirio “Pepe” Lobo took the Honduran presidency in elections Sunday, five months after the country’s last elected president was forced out of the country at gunpoint. Police say the suspect in the slayings of four police officers at a suburban coffee shop was not found in the Seattle home where he was thought to have been holed up.

Negotiators spent the night trying to communicate with 37-year-old Maurice Clemmons, using loudspeakers, explosions and even a robot to try to prod him from hiding. But when they entered the home, he was not there.

He may be deceased...

"We have determined that in fact he has been shot," said Ed Troyer, a spokesman for the Pierce County Sheriff. "He may be deceased from his gunshot wound."
Police surrounded the house late Sunday, and a negotiator used a loudspeaker early Monday to call him out by name, saying: "Mr. Clemmons, I'd like to get you out of there safely. I can tell you this, we are not going away."

Maurice Clemmons has an extensive violent criminal history from Arkansas. He was also recently charged in Washington state with assaulting a police officer, and second-degree rape of a child. Using a bail bondsman, he posted $150,000 — only $15,000 of his own money — and was released from jail last week.

According to the Seattle Weekly....
Officer Timothy Brenton, the Seattle cop and father of two killed on Saturday night in Leschi, was probably targeted at random, police say. Assistant Police Chief Jim Pugel called Brenton's murder an "assassination." And sources who spoke to King 5 say that all indications point to a planned attack: the gunmen approached from the rear then backed up after shooting, possibly to avoid being caught on Brenton's dashboard-camera.

Brenton, 39, a Marysville father of two, was killed instantly. His father and an uncle are retired Seattle cops. 33-year-old Britt Sweeney, the trainee sitting next to Brenton who miraculously survived the ambush, was released from the hospital after being treated with minor injuries. The suspect, however, remains at-large.

UPDATE: Last month, Seattle police officer Timothy Brenton was shot and killed Halloween night as he was sitting in a cruiser with trainee Britt Sweeney. Sweeney was grazed in the neck.

Christopher Monfort, 41, of suburban Tukwila, was charged in the shooting. Days after the shooting, Seattle detectives attempted to question Monfort at his residence. Police say that Monfort then ran from the detectives and tried to use a gun. The detective shot him. Authorities also linked Monfort to the October firebombing of four police vehicles, with prosecutors saying Monfort waged a "one-man war" against law enforcement.

Monfort remained hospitalized.

people who believe in duty, obligation and service and do that on
behalf of the community," he said. "We lost people we care about. We're working to find out who did this and deal with him."

AP Reports........A gunman burst into a coffeehouse Sunday and killed four officers, in what was described as a targeted ambush.

Pierce County,Washington Sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer said officers were looking for one male suspect who fled the scene and haven't ruled out an accomplice, possibly a getaway driver.

For about 200 years, lunatics were sent to Staunton. (Now they come on their own). The Western Lunatic Asylum opened in Staunton in 1828 as the official repository.
Dr. Francis T. Stribling was one of the first superintendent's of the Western Lunatic Asylum.
Dr. Joseph S. DeJarnette was superintendent of the renamed Western State Hospital from 1906-43. DeJarnette advocated legal sterilizations of those unable to support themselves because of a mental condition and those who were “syphilitic, epileptic, imbeciles and drunkards.”
In 1972, in order to serve children with severe emotional disorders, the facility was renamed the DeJarnette Center. A new children’s psychiatric hospital was constructed on the Western State Hospital campus across U.S. 250 from the former DeJarnette Center in 1996.
The new facility was named the Commonwealth Center for Children and Adolescents by state officials in 2001, after the General Assembly refused to use Dr. DeJarnette’s name because of his discredited history. The first phase of the 2010 U.S. Census is under way as workers have begun verifying the addresses of households across the country. Eventually, more than 140,000 U.S. Census workers will count every person in the United States and will gather information about every person living at each address including name, age, gender, race, and other relevant data.
The big question is - how do you tell the difference between a U.S. Census worker and a con artist? BBB offers the following advice:
If a U.S. Census worker knocks on your door, they will have a badge, a handheld device, a Census Bureau canvas bag, and a confidentiality notice. Ask to see their identification and their badge before answering their questions. However, you should never invite anyone you don't know into your home.

Census workers are currently only knocking on doors to verify address information. Do not give your Social Security number, credit card or banking information to anyone, even if they claim they need it for the U.S. > Census.
REMEMBER, NO MATTER WHAT THEY ASK, YOU REALLY ONLY NEED TO TELL THEM HOW MANY PEOPLE LIVE AT YOUR ADDRESS.

While the Census Bureau might ask for basic financial information, such as a salary range, YOU DON'T HAVE TO ANSWER ANYTHING AT ALL ABOUT YOUR FINANCIAL SITUATION. According to the Boston Herald.........Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen was sporting a black eye behind the tinted visor he wore to practice Tuesday.
According to a university official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak about the matter, Clausen was punched outside a South Bend bar early Sunday morning.
Clausen was at C.J.’s Pub about 2 a.m. with his family and girlfriend after Notre Dame’s double overtime loss to Connecticut, according to the official.

The group decided to leave after words were exchanged with others at the bar, the official said. As they were leaving, Clausen’s girlfriend realized she left her purse behind. Clausen went back to retrieve the purse and someone followed him outside and punched him, the official said. Clausen did not fight back and left, the official said.
